The Center co-sponsored the Louisiana Mycobacteria Symposium on April 20, 2012 at the Tulane National Primate Research Center in Covington, LA in conjunction with the Kwa-Zulu Natal Research Institute for Tuberculosis and HIV-AIDS.
The day-long symposium focused on the areas of tuberculosis and leprosy research conducted throughout the State of Louisiana. The meeting featured presentations by researchers, post-docs, and students who specialize in these areas of Mycobacteria research from LSUHSC-NO, the Primate Center, the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, and the Hansen’s Disease Center at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge.
Attendees were also given the opportunity to tour the Primate Center’s campus, including the breeding colony and the newly established Regional Biosafety Laboratory. Faculty members of these Institutions will continue to come together in an effort to synergize their research across the State though further meetings and symposiums.
